This summer, we were privileged to be joined by three marketing and communication majors. In this post, the second in a series of three, Sarah Dranoff, a digital media design major at Florida Gulf Coast University, adds to the insights of our first post in the series, by Haley Agosto, and shares several tips on how other interns can succeed based on her summer spent here. Why you wanted to intern at Schifino Lee?
I saw how closely knit the team was and how they work together, and I wanted to be a part of this. This summer I never got lost in the crowd or felt overwhelmed, and I always felt like I belonged.
Client accounts you worked on?
A lot, but some of the biggest assignments were for MGT, Pinnacle Home Care, Alessi Foods and YPO. I collaborated with the account teams to work on creating logo designs, product designs, and marketing assets, such as social media images, website banners, and digital online catalogs.
Two lessons you learned?
Paying careful attention to detail. I had no idea how much developing this skill would change my perspective on design. Another lesson is how important having client meetings are to keep current projects on track and to be able to collaborate on new ideas and projects.
Most rewarding accomplishment?
Working on MGT’s 50th anniversary logo and website banners. I was able to present my work in a client meeting, and it was chosen and is being used!
Advice to new interns?
Always say yes! You never know where a project will take you personally and professionally.
Ideal first job after graduation?
Graphic designer at an agency like Schifino Lee. I love the chance to work with companies across different industries and the comfort of having a tight-knit team to collaborate with.
Favorite movie?
Toss-up between Happy Gilmore and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
Favorite vacation?
A trip to Boston last fall to visit a friend. We went to a disco, the South End, Beacon Hill, and the Seaport District.
Any three dinner guests?
My mom, who is my role model and inspires me to stay true to myself; Paula Scher, who inspires the way I think and challenges me with her work; and Mac Miller, who is one of my favorite artists to listen to while designing.
